News: Godzilla is now officially a Japanese Citizen

But what about Mothra?

Great news for fictional beings worldwide as Godzilla officially becomes a citizen of the country that once feared him!

Today it has been announced that Godzilla has been appointed as Shinjuku's Tourism Ambassador. This has the minor requirement that he actually becomes a citizen of Japan, so earlier this year he was officially welcomed as a citizen of the ward and granted diplomatic immunity, however the 61 year old monsters paperwork was only finally finished over the weekend.

“Godzilla is a character that is the pride of Japan,” Shinjuku Mayor Kenichi Yoshizumi said of the reptilian sexagenarian at a special ceremony in April. (Pictured Below)

His new official duties have been outlined and include but are not limited to “promoting the entertainment of and watching over the Kabuki-cho neighborhood and drawing visitors from around the globe in the form of the Godzilla head built atop the Shinjuku TOHO Building.”

I can only assume there is also a clause somewhere in the documentation prohibiting Godzilla and any known acquaintances from smashing their way around the city, but who knows? Would certainly save money on demolition teams though!

After all is said and done, this is certainly going to be a momentous occasion for fictional characters everywhere and their quietly growing equal rights movements
